Stormy sunset — Lake Tahoe (July 2014)

"Be happy for this moment. This moment is your life." —Omar Khayyam

These words help capture the incredible whirlwind of the past few weeks. Highlights involved cathartic summits, rooftops overlooking Manhattan, s’mores made on fire features, and hours of good-for-the-soul conversations with deep body-shaking laughter.

From the “mundane” to new experiences, there were constant reminders that time past and miles apart are no match for true connections and experiences together.

Grateful for profound examples that love is what matters and can really conquer all…even rainy, stormy afternoons!

Sunset overlooking Hanalei Bay - Kauaʻi, Hawaii (December 2013)

"Certain things catch your eye, but pursue only those that capture the heart." – Ancient Indian Proverb

Happy heart.  Past two weeks have been filled with love, (even) amidst 9-hour travel cancellations and delays, torrential rains, and logistical “snafus” — because, in the end, it is all about the adventure.  Distance, mishaps, setbacks, dizziness — nothing can stand in the way of deep love.

To me, breathtaking skies are often the best physical representations of those once-in-a-lifetime relationships — irreplaceable family and friends, who let you be you — who support you no matter what — who dance with you, even when the music fades…

Sending happy wishes and celebrating gratitude!

Cultivating gratitude. Appreciating natural beauty {in the city}! Cherishing laughter and even a few tears. Indulging in {new} Netflix series. Connecting and feeling. Reflecting on all the good, especially family and friends.

Celebrating love.

Breaking waves and rocking boats on the blue — Tahoe Vista (June 2014)

The past two weeks have been a blur…

Bake sales and momentous finish line victories; long talks over coffee; walks around Tahoe; glorious, juice-running-down-your-hand Farmers’ Market produce {apricots, plums, peaches}; community pride; deep breathing (and long naps); first boat outing on the lake; sunset appreciation; lots of love.

…and then coming back east this weekend:  airport laps; warm welcomes; late-night unpacking and talking; errands in perfect weather…

It is *so good* to be back.  Lots of love; waiting; positive news and floods of relief; endless support; good-for-the-soul dinners; wishing for speedier recoveries; rolling-on-the-floor laughter and hashtag brainstorming for epic adventures ahead…

Very grateful.

Swaying branches — Florida (May 2014)

"Someone is sitting in the shade today because someone planted a tree a long time ago." —Warren Buffett

Whenever we visit Florida, I am struck by the beauty of the trees that majestically line the streets.  From palm trees to stately oaks, covered in Spanish moss, the green contrast against the brilliant blue sky is remarkable.

Having just described the vivid colors, in reflecting on this trip, it seems (more) fitting to share this image in black-and-white.  For me, it accentuates the moment, feeling the love and history of this special place.

This weekend allowed us to cherish time with family and friends.  So very grateful and honored to be part of wonderful traditions.  Looking forward to creating many more memories…every day!

Sun-kissed canopy — Lake Tahoe (May 2014)

I never saw a discontented tree. They grip the ground as though they liked it, and though fast rooted they travel about as far as we do.” —John Muir

What a weekend!  What a start to the week!

Music and love-filled car rides.  Quality time with friends.  Idea gathering experiences and errands.  An amazing produce stand with ripe juice-running-down-your-hands white peaches, nectarines, apples, and fresh, crispy-on-the-outside-melty-on-the-inside oatmeal chocolate chip cookies! Long neighborhood walks…“finding” unexpected, beautiful trails with waterfalls.  An afternoon barbeque feast with cedar-plank grilled salmon and homemade cucumber salad — hours of fun.  Re-runs of a favorite show — just one more… Productive energy.  Jelly bracelets, cheers, and watermelon.  Unexpected visits with new neighbors. Snow-sunshine-snow.  Coffee breaks.

Daily adventure. Living in the moment. Excitement about the future!

First “summer” day — Lake Tahoe

There is nothing like sitting on the beach at the end of a long day. So fortunate!

Calm water — Lake Tahoe (May 2014)

"Adopt the pace of nature: her secret is patience." —Ralph Waldo Emerson

*Patience* — such a virtue, and one I often struggle with.  Yesterday, after a wonderful (though too-short) weekend filled with laughter and love…snow and sunshine…walks and talks, there was nothing more centering than standing on the beach, looking out at the tranquil water.  Feeling ever so fortunate.

Wishing all gentle peacefulness (and good health) in the coming week!

Scenes from Santa Fe and Albuquerque — New Mexico (May 2014)

As promised, pictures from this weekend’s bachelorette in New Mexico!  Getting to see and experience where the bride grew up was very special.  From Santa Fe’s Burro Alley to Canyon Road, filled with wonderful galleries, it was lovely walking around a place so rich in history, tradition, and art.  Between the delicious New Mexican food, great weather, and a relaxing itinerary, the trip was splendid — but it was the company that made it truly exceptional.

Wonderful memories and cannot wait for the celebrations ahead!

Waking up to snow-covered pines — Lake Tahoe

With little flurries all day and dramatic clouds rolling in and out, it was quite a gorgeous return — even if it is May. Missed the invigorating mountain air and breathtaking surroundings!

…and on a (personal) note: what a special homecoming — so many beautiful, unexpected surprises arranged with such deep love, thoughtfulness, and care. It is hard to put my emotions into words. “Thank you” feels quite inadequate…

Seeing rainbows through the rain — Washington DC (April 2014)

"You’ll never find a rainbow if you’re looking down." —Charles (Charlie) Chaplin

Celebrating rainy days with this remarkable rainbow, snapped {while a passenger!} last week in the city!

Relishing joyous moments…and very grateful for so much love and support, in particular for such *kind* messages recently. From the bottom of my heart, many sunny {rainbow-filled} wishes for a wonderful week!

Magical urban sunset — Washington DC {unfiltered}

"Nature is painting for us, day after day, pictures of infinite beauty if only we have the eyes to see them." —John Ruskin

Living out west has made me deeply appreciate sunsets. So thankful to be much more primed to notice and relish in these moments…and particularly lucky to capture tonight’s glorious display radiating across the city! Perfect ending to a week filled with family and love.

Stately branches bask at dusk — Washington DC

"Family is not an important thing. It’s everything." —Michael J. Fox

So very happy to be home with my family. There is nothing like it.

No matter how much we travel, transition, or move, *home* will always be with family, where love is unconditional and unwavering. Home, then, can exist in several physical locations…especially if it’s always in the bonds of the heart.
