New York state of mind — Manhattan (July 2014)

Give me such shows — give me the streets of Manhattan!” — Walt Whitman

Flashback to an incredible wedding weekend in New York City.

Rooftop adventures.  ”Barn dancing” and photo booths.  Amazing food and even better catching up.  Celebrating soulmates.  In short, quality time with life-long friends.

Stormy sunset — Lake Tahoe (July 2014)

"Be happy for this moment. This moment is your life." —Omar Khayyam

These words help capture the incredible whirlwind of the past few weeks. Highlights involved cathartic summits, rooftops overlooking Manhattan, s’mores made on fire features, and hours of good-for-the-soul conversations with deep body-shaking laughter.

From the “mundane” to new experiences, there were constant reminders that time past and miles apart are no match for true connections and experiences together.

Grateful for profound examples that love is what matters and can really conquer all…even rainy, stormy afternoons!

Sand Harbor — Lake Tahoe (May 2014)

“All that is gold does not glitter,
Not all those who wander are lost;
The old that is strong does not wither,
Deep roots are not reached by the frost.”

— J.R.R. Tolkien, The Fellowship of the Ring

Struck by how powerfully literature can capture a sentiment.  Grateful for laughter and family.  Counting sleeps.  Summoning and sending strength and love.

…to a magnificent week!

Sunset overlooking Hanalei Bay - Kauaʻi, Hawaii (December 2013)

"Certain things catch your eye, but pursue only those that capture the heart." – Ancient Indian Proverb

Happy heart.  Past two weeks have been filled with love, (even) amidst 9-hour travel cancellations and delays, torrential rains, and logistical “snafus” — because, in the end, it is all about the adventure.  Distance, mishaps, setbacks, dizziness — nothing can stand in the way of deep love.

To me, breathtaking skies are often the best physical representations of those once-in-a-lifetime relationships — irreplaceable family and friends, who let you be you — who support you no matter what — who dance with you, even when the music fades…

Sending happy wishes and celebrating gratitude!

Cultivating gratitude. Appreciating natural beauty {in the city}! Cherishing laughter and even a few tears. Indulging in {new} Netflix series. Connecting and feeling. Reflecting on all the good, especially family and friends.

Celebrating love.

Strength and beauty — Washington DC (April 2014)

"Tough times don’t last but tough people do." —A. C. Green*

Close friends are the family you choose.  The friends who mail letters and make you fall off a chair {literally} laughing. The friends who would/do drop everything to be there, no questions asked.  The friends who are *always* up for adventure — big or small — even being the best/worst/best partner {hypothetically} on The Amazing Race.  The friends who inspire you with their strength, loyalty, empathy, and love.

*Today’s MilePost quote resonated deeply.  Tonight, especially, counting every gift…particularly, family by birth, by choice, and by love.

Magnolia blossoms — Washington DC (April 2014)

"We acquire the strength we have overcome." —Ralph Waldo Emerson

The city has fully transitioned to summer, complete with its signature humidity, heat lightening, and thunderstorms. Most will disagree, but I occasionally appreciate moments when the warm heat envelops you; it can be comforting…to a point!

After this week, particularly grateful for family, love, friends-who-are-family, and laughter. Deeply appreciating quality time and *good* moments.

Breaking waves and rocking boats on the blue — Tahoe Vista (June 2014)

The past two weeks have been a blur…

Bake sales and momentous finish line victories; long talks over coffee; walks around Tahoe; glorious, juice-running-down-your-hand Farmers’ Market produce {apricots, plums, peaches}; community pride; deep breathing (and long naps); first boat outing on the lake; sunset appreciation; lots of love.

…and then coming back east this weekend:  airport laps; warm welcomes; late-night unpacking and talking; errands in perfect weather…

It is *so good* to be back.  Lots of love; waiting; positive news and floods of relief; endless support; good-for-the-soul dinners; wishing for speedier recoveries; rolling-on-the-floor laughter and hashtag brainstorming for epic adventures ahead…

Very grateful.

{Note: Tumblr friends — sorry for the absence - expect some catch up in the days ahead!  Sending good thoughts…and thanks to all for the love and support!}

Summer light — Washington DC (June 2014)

*Third time’s the charm.*

Three surgeries later, my mother achieved bionic status…and she was already a superhero! Yesterday was an all too familiar day of waiting, with the wonderful relief of her coming through it really strong.

Today: taking nothing for granted, appreciating love, and looking forward to being further along the recovery road! Truly, so very grateful; I realize how *fortunate* I am to have the most amazing family and friends.

Tempestuous weather over Lake Tahoe

Love is unstoppable
Love, it can weather any storm…

Like a river keeps on rolling
Like the north wind blowing
Don’t it feel good knowing…

Feeling very fortunate. Excited for the weekend ahead!

Paddling adventures — Lake Tahoe

Perfect start to a gorgeous, sunny Sunday. Launching double kayaks on glassy water, listening to music, exploring coastline, landing on Secret Beach, and soaking in breathtaking scenery with friends.

Is this “real?”…so grateful.

Summer is coming — Tunnel Creek above Lake Tahoe

So much happy: coffee, sunshine, *laughter,* hiking, adventurous “travel friends,” furniture, game nights, and delicious food. Heart is full of love, contentment, and gratitude…and there is much more ahead! Deeply thankful.

Swaying branches — Florida (May 2014)

"Someone is sitting in the shade today because someone planted a tree a long time ago." —Warren Buffett

Whenever we visit Florida, I am struck by the beauty of the trees that majestically line the streets.  From palm trees to stately oaks, covered in Spanish moss, the green contrast against the brilliant blue sky is remarkable.

Having just described the vivid colors, in reflecting on this trip, it seems (more) fitting to share this image in black-and-white.  For me, it accentuates the moment, feeling the love and history of this special place.

This weekend allowed us to cherish time with family and friends.  So very grateful and honored to be part of wonderful traditions.  Looking forward to creating many more memories…every day!
